The Iroquoia portion of the Bruce Trail starts at Grimsby at 40 Mile Creek, and follows Lake Ontario and will finish Part 1 of the Section at Syndenham Lookout. Our tour allows you to complete this 60 plus kilometer hike in 3 days! Along the way you’ll stay in unique accommodations, experience some of Ontario’s only Carolinian Forests, view waterfalls and dine on freshly prepared meals.

Participants must be capable of hiking an average of 21 kilometers per day.

Your daily hiking itinerary

We will meet at the Casablanca Hotel in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada.

Check in is at 4:00pm

Next up is our orientation and welcome feast, where you will:

  • Meet the guide
  • Learn about safety concerns
  • Receive an introduction to the Iroquoia Section of the Bruce Trail
  • Finally, we will perform equipment check-in (hiking poles/backpack/safety equipment)

Hours: 7:30 am to 5:00 pm
Distance: 20.8 kms

We will depart The Casablanca Hotel and end at the Devil’s Punchbowl, followed by a shuttle to Valen Lake Conservation Area.

What we will do:

  • Depart at 7:30 am after breakfast
  • Shuttle to trailhead at Forty mile creek to the beginning of The Iroquoia Section
  • Climb up the Niagara escarpment alongside the Forty Mile Creek to get a beautiful view of Grimsby and Lake Ontario at Beamers’s Lookout
  • Continuous walk through hardwood forest including towering carolinian forest in Woolverton Conservation Area, Winona Conservation Area and Vinemount Conservation Area.
  • Finish the day with a a hike through the gorge to see the lower Devil’s punchbowl falls and a final hike up the Niagara escarpment to the Devil’s Punchbowl showcasing a 37 meter waterfall.
  • We will stop off at the The Punchbowl Market for some irresistible treats before shuttling to Valens Lake Conservation Area for our Wilderness Glamping Experience.

We will arise and leave our base camp at the Valens Lake Conservation Area and end Valens Lake Conservation Area.

What we will do:

  • Depart at 7:30 am after breakfast
  • Shuttle back to Devil’s Punchbowl
  • Emerge from the forest and find yourself at Felker’s Falls with a beautiful waterfall and lookout spots
  • Hike under the Red Valley Parkway and take a short detour to Albion falls for a break or lunch
  • Enjoy the walk of the Escarpment Rail Trail
  • Climb the Wentworth Steps
  • Finish the Day with the Chedoke Radial Trail and a stop at Princess Falls
  • We will shuttle back to base camp to Valens Lake Conservation Area for our Wilderness Glamping Experience.

Distance: 18 kms

We will start at Valens Lake Conservation Area and end the Chapter at Syndenham Lookout.

  • Depart at 7:30 am after breakfast
  • Shuttle back to Chedoke Radial Trail
  • Quickly engage your senses with two beautiful waterfalls, Tiffany and Sherman
  • Quickly checkout the Hermitage before immersing yourself ino the beauty that is Dundas Valley Conservation Area with almost 10 km’s of hiking in deep forest
  • Emerge to the quaint little town of Dundas before finishing the day with one final hike up the escarpment to Sydenham Lookout
  • We will shuttle back to Casablanca Inn to round out your journey.

Base level of fitness is needed to complete the hike. It is challenging, with an average of 21 kilometers of hiking per day. Check out our blog post for recommended fitness routines before your trip.

Sleeping will be in a combination of charming inns and wilderness glamping, which includes bell tents, bed frames, memory foam mattress, and furniture.

For most travelers, no additional lodging is required.

For the Niagara section, check-in at the Kent Motel is at 4:00 pm on Sunday. The hike finishes late afternoon on Thursday (approximately 3:00 pm) and our shuttle brings you back to the Kent Motel, where your vehicle is parked. We usually arrive back at the Kent Motel around 5:00 pm.

Chef-prepared meals will be served for breakfast and dinner. Lunch will be freshly packed every morning.
